Why was a different amount charged compared to the purchase made with my debit card?

When you purchase at establishments such as gas stations and hotels, it is common for them to place a hold (pre-authorization) on an amount that may differ from the final purchase amount. This practice is quite usual for these types of establishments, and the amount is determined by them, not by Nomad.

The pre-authorized amount is held in your account until the purchase is finalized. Once the purchase is finalized, the establishment updates the charged amount, and the difference between the held amount and the final amount is refunded to your account, usually automatically.

Timeframe:

The processing time for finalizing purchases varies based on the merchant:

  • Hotels, car rental companies, and travel agencies: the processing time is up to 15 days.
  • Other establishments: the processing time is up to 7 days.

Important! When the establishment approves the refund, Nomad automatically releases the amount back to your account.
