I am unable to make a purchase with my debit card. What could be happening?

If you have tried to use your Nomad Debit Card and the purchase was declined, we need to identify the reason why the purchase was not approved. The most common reasons include card blockage, attempted use in the wrong function, incorrect PIN, and insufficient funds.
To help you identify the cause of the problem, please follow these steps:

  • Check if your card is active: After receiving the card, it is necessary to activate it in the Nomad app before using it. To check if the card is active, access the Nomad app. If the card is blocked, you can unblock it in the app.
  • Check if the temporary block is disabled: You may have activated the temporary block on your card in the Nomad app. To check if the temporary block is disabled, access the Nomad app and disable it.
  • Try using the card as credit: Even though your Nomad card is a debit card, outside the US it is common to be asked to select the credit function when using it. Try using the card as credit to check if this is the issue.
  • Verify that you are using the correct PIN: The PINs for the plastic card and the virtual card are different, so make sure you are using the correct PIN.
  • Check if there are sufficient funds in your Nomad International Account: You can only use your Nomad Debit Card if you have sufficient funds in your account.

Please note that Nomad currently only works with the Visa network. If your card has another network, you will need to request a new card.

If you have already checked all the above situations and are still unable to use your Nomad debit card, please contact Nomad customer support for assistance.
