Do I need to buy an entire asset? Or can it be a fraction of an investment?

It is optional to buy whole numbers of assets. You can buy fractions as usual.
From the app, you can choose the amount you want to invest in the selected asset and will have access to the estimated total number of stocks based on the asset's value at that moment.
